[Integration Week]

👷 For our third in-person Integration week, partners went back to Athens, Greece, in November 2022. It was dedicated to the network and localization integration of the robotic and human agents involved in the hull monitoring task. This includes the three kinds of robots: magnetic crawlers, underwater ROVs, flying drones and human operators equipped with Augmented Reality gear.

👷‍♀️ In October 2022, partners CNRS and Roboplanet travelled to Concarneau, France, to collect the data needed to build a 3D model of a ship in dry dock.

Partner WMU hosted the IMO-WMU Joint International Academic Conference titled: Protecting the Ocean – Moving forward at 50: London Convention & Stockholm Declaration on 10-13 October 2022.

The intent was to help raise awareness and discuss ocean- and climate-related topics under the framework of the London Convention and Stockholm Declaration’s 50th anniversaries with the objective to achieve new research insights and establish impactful actions.

[Testing week]

Field tests!

👨‍💻 Last September 2022, partners from the University of Aachen (RWTH) and the University of Trier (UT) travelled to Metz for a test week. They also went to the Cristal Union site in Bazancourt, France, to carry out new tests in real conditions with ROBOPLANET and CNRS.

Partner WMU, represented by Aspasia Pasta and Tafsir Johansson, organised with Nordic Crisis Management the Annual Seminar for Port Security Officiers (PSO).

The event was hosted on 28-29 September 2022, at the premises of WMU in Malmo, Sweden, and included 15 Harbour masters from the Scandinavian Region. 
 
The objective was to qualify and update the participants on regulations, routines and best practices in their duties related to maritime security. The seminar also featured marine technology and innovations under the WMU’s Bugwright2 project.

On 20 September 2022, WMU participated in an online maritime webinar with Shenzen, China. Partner Tafsir Johansson presented his paper “BUGWRIGHT2 Overcoming Regulatory Barriers for Service Robotics in an Ocean Industry Context”.

The webinar was mostly for stakeholders and decision makers in the maritime industry, it included Shenzhen University, Department of City Planning, Business development bureau, Environmental protection department, Department of Natural resourcing, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, China Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University (Shenzhen), Shenzhen Maozhou River Basin Administration Center, Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration of the People’s Republic of China, Shenzhen Customs Office of Postal Supervision, Agriculture, Rural and Marine Fisheries Bureau of Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone, Harbin University, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen Marine Comprehensive Law Enforcement Detachment etc. but also staff members including Maritime Professors and researchers.

👷 Our first in-person Integration week was held at the Perama port in Athens, Greece, in May 2022.

During this integration week, partners were finally able to work together on site.

Thanks to our partners Glafcos Marine, Danaos and Starbulk, a mock-up was built in the spring and finished just in time for our integration week.

WMU hosted the first virtual webinar. This is the first of the series of webinars they plan to organise over the next 2 years of the project. 

The special guest lecture from US, expert on transport autonomy, was Mr. Sean Pribyl, Senior Counsel at Holland & Knight LLP. The title of his presentation was “Optimizing Vessel Operations and Environmental Compliance through Emerging Technologies”.

👷‍♂️ In January 2022, partner ROBOPLANET travelled to Portugal to do some testing with partner Arsenal do Alfeite, S.A. (AASA).

The goal was to evaluate the new UT_Crawler for ship inspection. External ship hull inspection are requested by class societies to allow ships to take the sea.
