Long Night of Research

The Lakeside Lab participated in the Long Night of Research on 20th May 2022, an event every two years where companies, research labs, and university groups open their doors to the general public.

During the Long Night of Research (Lange Nacht der Forschung) Universities present their most exciting projects. Lakeside Labs joined this year’s event that counted 8000 visitors in Klagenfurt, Austria.

Lakeside Lab presented BUGWRIGHT2, and other projects, showed how to use swarm intelligence to solve real problems, and proposed a game for kids inspired by BUGWRIGHT2. In the latter, two participants pretended to be a drone and a crawler that carried on a ship inspection task. One participant (crawler) could move on the ship but could not see the path to follow; the other participant (drone) had an overview of the path and had to communicate it to the crawler.

We had a lot of interest in our activities, and the game was very popular. We are confident that we promoted research and inspired the new generation.
